Despite the cold weather, the nature takes its course. Update of SDL Trados Studio - the universal software for translators - is just as unavoidable as the warmth coming after the long winter and snowfall of May 2017. Moving on to 2017 version!

Why Trados again?

SDL Trados Studio is still the absolute leader among translation tools that sets standards for the whole industry. This is the platform that combines tools necessary for translation, editing, project managing, working with terminology, and enabling machine translations. It supports the maximum number of file formats (from Word to HTML) and languages.

Thanks to the open API and app store on SDL portal, the system is constantly getting better and adapting to the needs of users thanks to plugins (many of which are free of charge) developed by the community.

The competitors may try hard, but even the newest cloud technologies cannot help them outdo the classic client-server solutions of SDL in the translators' tools market. SDL Trados still occupies the largest part of the market. Nowadays, more than 250,000 of professional translators use this platform worldwide.

Anyways, this is no longer news to anyone...

What's new?

Thanks to the hard work of developers, SDL Trados Studio 2017 got even better with its all-new functionality: self-training mechanism of machine translation AdaptiveMT, even more user-friendly terminology management, promising technology upLIFT for extracting translations and fuzzy matches from translation memory on the level of sentence fragments.

Mainstream

SDL Trados Studio 2017 is the universal solution for those, who want to bring their content or products to the world market. Our customers are already curious about our willingness to move on to the new version. And we are ready. Logrus Global has already updated its licences to SDL Trados Studio 2017 and continues to introduce new technologies, as well as new versions of localization tools.

Surprise!

We would have concluded our triumphal release on this lovely note, if not for the loud bang of thunder in the form of a notice coming from one large client of ours: "Users of Trados Studio 2015 SR3 - roll back to SR2 immediately. Everyone using Trados Studio 2017 must stop working with this version right now..." As it turned out, Trados Studio suffers from the notorious syndrome of inheriting hidden critical errors that seem to escape the developers' attention, who preoccupy themselves with cosmetic improvements way too much.

"Bugs"

The bug appeared in SDL Trados Studio 2015 SR3 released in March 2017 - at least for Japanese and Simplified Chinese Languages. Trados Studio deletes whitespaces after some tags, even though they are present in the Worldserver, in original texts, and in translated texts. SDL Trados Studio 2017 inherited this bug. As a result, when translations return to the server, translation memory databases become "polluted" and it gets more difficult to reuse the translations. It means that the client has to overpay the translators.

The second "surprise" that comes with SDL Trados Studio 2017 has to do with merging segments containing non-empty fields for translation. They can be machine-translated segments, for example. Such segments cannot be imported to the server after merging. The warning (it is not considered an error for some reason) appears in the import log, but it can be very easily missed when importing hundreds of packages.

SDL promised to fix these bugs in the end of April...
